RECONSTRUCTED CONSTRUCTION (2006)

——
2006 / installation / Campus Congres KDG, Antwerp (BE) / various materials / 600 × 500 × 300 cm
‘This installation is a collage of what people used to ask about me personally once they interacted with my work. I turned all the ideas which the public had about me into a collage of various rooms. The work is driven by their mental constructions of me as an artist, but it is also a reconstruction of places I visited before. In this way, the title of the work can be understood both literally and figuratively.’ PVW
This installation is a distorted version of the previously made Base A, part of T.P.E.S. 03. Unlike Base A, which was a genuine working space, this new work base is purely fictitious. It is a reconstruction of what the spectator imagines from looking at the artist’s other works: namely, a reconstruction of the artist’s image. That is why all artworks within this installation, the recurring Temporary Penetrable Exhibition Spaces, fictive CCTV videos, working materials and so on, are reduced to stage props. This also led to the work F.T.P.E.S. (see page 90).
